The regional delegation of the Music Authors and Writers Society (Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de la Música - SACM), has filled a law suit in the Office of the Attorney General, (Procuraduría General de la República - PGR), against some executives and the National System for the Integrated Development of the Family (Sistema de Desarrollo Integral para la Familia - DIF).
The accused ones, are the organizers of Shakira’s concert in Aguas Calientes, on last May. The plaintiffs says they haven’t received the payment for the show - 10% of box office sales. The debt amount is 1.4 million Mexican Pesos - something about $130,000.
In interview with La Jornada, Samuel Fuentes, regional delegate of the SACM, said:
“I want to believe that the governor doesn’t know about this, but the truth is that they have a debt with us, for the concept of the Author’s Rights Federal Law, in which the suit is based. The total amount will raise, because taxes will be added, and the expenses that are caused, because they should have paid it since May 11.”
Fuentes also said that the issue goes beyond the Mexican borders, because from New York, the Society of Authors in charge of Shakira’s interests is also demanding the payment of royalties. “The subject is no longer only national, but international, because Broadcasting Music Incorporated (BMI) is requesting the payment of these concerts by law “.
